This custom barndominium was a 4-day project that utilized our polished concrete expertise to deliver a striking finish. The client, who has previously worked with us, had a clear vision for this space and a passion for polished concrete. In fact, the design of the concrete pour itself was carefully crafted to suit the polished finish, making the most of the material’s natural beauty and long-lasting qualities.

Concrete Design & Materials

One of the key highlights of this project was the concrete mix design. The client selected an integral black pigment for the concrete pour, setting the foundation for the striking polished look. The concrete was poured at a robust 4,500 PSI, ensuring strength and durability for years to come.

We used top-of-the-line materials to enhance the beauty and performance of the floor, including:

  • Prosoco Consolideck LS Densifier: This high-quality densifier helps to penetrate and harden the surface of the concrete, providing a more durable finish and contributing to the overall sheen.

  • Prosoco Consolideck LS Guard: To add an extra layer of protection, we applied this guard to enhance the floor’s resistance to staining and wear while maintaining the polished appearance.

  • Hi-Tech PE95 Polyurea (Color: "Iron Ore"): This polyurea finish was used for the expansion joints, providing both a seamless look and exceptional durability in high-traffic areas.

  • Lavina Grinders: These powerful grinders were used for the polishing process, allowing us to achieve the desired Class B Aggregate Exposure and Level 3 Sheen, giving the floor a refined and glossy finish.

The Polishing Process

The client’s vision for the barndominium included a Class B Aggregate Exposure, which meant exposing the aggregate to create a unique texture and visual appeal. The floor was polished to a Level 3 Sheen, providing a sophisticated shine that enhances the natural depth of the concrete.

Thanks to our expert team and state-of-the-art equipment, including the Lavina grinders, we were able to achieve a consistent, high-quality finish across the entire 1,275-square-foot space.
