Sitting across from the Chattanooga Choo Choo in Chattanooga's Southside entertainment district is The Kinley, a $14 million 64-room boutique hotel, which opened in March, 2021. Reflecting the rich natural beauty of Chattanooga while creating a warm and unique environment where guests could easily feel at home while connecting to the best parts of the city was the inspiration behind the color scheme throughout the hotel, including the floors. After all, the name Kinley is derived from kinship: A social connection between people or cultures.

Working alongside the hotel designer and architect, Chattanooga Floor Care was able to bring their vision to life with a 4-color dye design. Immense attention to detail and skill were required to start and stop dye patterns in the middle of a concrete slab with crisp, straight lines and no bleeding, a difficult task. Taking into consideration that the concrete was poured in winter, which often causes cracking, we installed a dissipating cure and seal to fight this potential issue as well as Skudo, a surface protector. The finished product was a modern, one-of-a-kind floor that tied in perfectly with the warm, earthy and unique vibe of the hotel.

Designing the mix of concrete needed to achieve the desired effect required working closely with their pour and place contractor and over 18 months of preconstruction communication regarding everything from budget to design to functionality.

Being a part of this impressive project was an honor and we couldn’t be more pleased with the result.
