Resinous Flake Floor System | East Ridge Animal Services

Flooring Solutions for East Ridge Animal Services

At Chattanooga Floor Care, we take pride in transforming spaces to meet the unique needs of our clients. Our recent collaboration with East Ridge Animal Services was an extra special opportunity because this organization is genuinely all about compassion and care. East Ridge Animal Services is a "No Kill" shelter committed to the saving and rehabilitating of animals since 2013.

The facility needed resilient, cleanable flooring that would support high water usage and at the same time provide a safe hygienic environment for the animals and employees alike. Tasked with installing a medical grade resinous flake floor system, we knew this project would require creativity, precision, and a deep understanding of the facility's needs. Teaming up with JC Curtis Construction, it was a privilege to be part of making this dream come true.

Overcoming Challenges in a Retrofitted Space

Due to the unique requirements of an animal shelter, the existing building needed some serious modifications including trenching concrete for water, updating electrical systems, and building CMU walls to partition kennel spaces. For Chattanooga Floor Care, our flooring challenge was efficient water control. With daily cleaning and significant water usage, we needed to ensure the floors were highly water-resistant and easy to maintain. But we also had to find the perfect balance between safety and cleanability. The floors had to provide slip resistance without sacrificing cleanability.

Tailoring the Perfect Solution

In our effort to meet these needs, we closely collaborated with East Ridge Animal Services to present three sample finishes that were tailored to their specific needs. They chose a custom flake blend that met their functionality and aesthetic preferences.

An integral cove base was included in the flooring system so the kennels could be easily washed top-down and minimize corners in which bacteria and mold can grow. This seamless wall to floor transition facilitates hygiene and maintenance. For added brightness, we also applied a gloss coating to increase light reflectivity, making the smaller rooms brighter and more inviting.

Materials and Techniques

We installed a polyaspartic two-coat flake floor system with Surfkoat Polyrez primer, containing 1/16" flake broadcast. It was topped with an additional coating layer to meet the shelter's cleanability needs while keeping the finish sleek. Every little thing, from the flake color blend to the reflective surface, was customized for this facility.

Completed on June 18, 2024, this project stands as a testament to collaboration and innovation. The new flooring system not only meets the functional demands of the shelter but enhances its mission to provide a safe and nurturing environment for animals.  It was an honor to partner with such a generous and service-minded local institution.
