Low Temperature Installs: Not Letting Winter Get the Better of Us

Many of us have experienced that all too familiar feeling of ‘Where did the time go?!’ You wake up and somehow it’s gone from August to November in what seems like a flash and you’ve still got a few things to check off your home improvement or project list. The sun sinks behind the quickly shedding trees at a much earlier time, we arrive home in the evening and it’s already dark, and the weather can become somewhat unpredictable. One day it’s in the sixties and the next a chilly forty degrees, and we all likely think the same thing, ‘I guess I’ll get to it in the spring for my concrete coatings project.’

Fortunately in Tennessee and the surrounding states, we’re blessed with mild enough weather conditions in the fall and winter that the materials and techniques we use allow us to continue installing and completing work, even in the lower temperatures outside, where a lot of other projects or improvements require a somewhat limited and specific weather condition.

The lower temperatures may result in a slightly longer cure or dry time, we suggest twelve hours for light foot traffic and twenty four hours for heavy traffic, such as putting a vehicle back in the garage, but thanks to the advanced technology industrial coatings we use, we’re still able to obtain a complete cure in an acceptable time frame, while the antiquated epoxies of the past couldn’t be installed in lower temps. Others in the industry, such as Colorado Springs Garage Floors, install their polyaspartic as low as negative -20 degrees fahrenheit. One of our trusted manufacturers, Citadel, offers a couple of different mixes with spec sheets suggesting installation from -20 degrees fahrenheit all the way to 120 degrees fahrenheit, so regardless of your location, or the season, you’re able to complete your desired project. Luckily, we don’t have to worry about temperatures this low, or high, in our area but the advancements in the chemistry for these coatings is progressing rapidly to meet the needs of all clients, regardless of where they call home.

In addition and as a precaution, we can climatize some environments to create the appropriate or a more suitable temperature and humidity, which also plays a part in installation, to ensure that the product is curing properly. Because of the product flexibility and our abilities, winter is actually a great time to have those garages, basements, pool decks and other outdoor areas done and ready to use as soon as those comfortingly warm spring days arrive. Our highly skilled, trained and experienced technicians will not allow the installation to go wrong, regardless of whatever mother nature may be throwing at us, but if that doesn’t comfort you, our fifteen year warranty will. Beat the rush by being ahead of the game and give us a shout to talk about what options we have for your space.
